A wingman’s primary objective is to help their buddy out when it comes to getting a woman when out in a public place. This public place in my experience has usually been bars. There are also many other common duties that a wingman may have to take part in – such as doing whatever it takes to keep that friend(s) of the girl your buddy is trying to hook up with occupied.

Sometimes, in many cases, your buddy is going after the hot girl, and the hot girl has a friend that is not as good looking, or even in some cases just not attractive at all. This is where the wingman comes in and ‘takes one for the team’, so that you are able to get the girl.

Back in the day when I was single, and so was my buddy, we were always out on the prowl to find women. Mostly just to hook up with them for a night or two, and then repeat the process. We were both natural ‘wingmen’. We never went out and particularly said – you are the wingman tonight.

If I saw someone that interests me – then we would make a plan to approach her. If she happened to have a friend with her, this made it all the better. Whatever it took to get him hooked up, or get me hooked up, are the duties of the wingman.

Make sure that if you are picking a wingman for you, that he is a good friend of yours. You two should be on the same scale when it comes to looks – though this is just my honest opinion and doesn’t affect success rates.

Wingmen don’t always have to take one for the team. Wingmen can also be in a relationship or married, which can be a good thing, especially if they are better looking than you are, as you don’t have to worry about them taking the girl that you are trying to hook up with.

Some other duties of the wingman would include making your buddy look good. Back up the stories he tells – compliment him. Don’t go overboard though. If you and your friend are in a group, the wingman should not steal the spotlight from the main man.

From experience, if your wingman gets too drunk – this can possibly hurt you. So if you are going out to a bar, make sure the wingman knows how to hold his liquor. I cannot count how many times that one of my drunk friends messed things up for me when trying to hook up with a girl at the bar.
